Professional Background

1995-2001

In the Beginning

I was fortunate to begin my journey under the mentorship of Sam Calhoun, a legendary figure in bodybuilding and personal training. A native Californian, Sam left home at 17 to pursue his passion for fitness, eventually helping shape the iconic Muscle Beach in Venice, CA. In 1959, he earned the title of "America’s Most Muscular Man" and went on to open several successful health clubs in the Los Angeles area, where he operated for over 30 years.

I had the privilege of serving as Sam’s assistant for seven years, working alongside him at his practice in the LA Athletic Club in Los Angeles, California. During this time, I gained hands-on experience in exercise science, fitness testing, nutritional analysis and guidance,  and exercise prescription.

Sam’s expertise was matched by his resilience. After being afflicted with a rare case of polio in 1975, he used his knowledge of exercise physiology to regain mobility and continued to train and mentor others despite his partial disability. His dedication to personal training and innovative approach left a lasting impression on me, shaping my philosophy and approach to coaching.

Under Sam’s guidance, I developed a deep understanding of exercise science, body mechanics, and individualized training, which continues to influence every program I design today. His legacy of combining passion, knowledge, and care for clients inspired me to dedicate my life to helping others achieve their fitness goals safely and effectively.

1996-2001

Golds Gym

During my time with Sam Calhoun, I continued my career at Gold’s Gym, working as a personal trainer with a focus on fitness testing and individualized program design. This role gave me the opportunity to apply everything I was learning from Sam — from exercise physiology to movement mastery — directly to my clients.

During this period, I also had the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Levi, a biology professor researching genetics and nutrition, which deepened my understanding of how different body types respond to exercise and dietary strategies. This experience allowed me to integrate scientific insights into my training programs, creating highly personalized approaches for each client.

It was during this time that I began to establish my own approach to training, combining precision, balance, and a personalized understanding of each client’s body. With this knowledge and experience, my training technique helped clients achieve measurable results, setting myself apart in a competitive fitness environment.

2018-2020

Gym Love

Seventeen years after my time at Gold’s Gym, I joined Gym Love in South Lake Tahoe. I wore many hats there — general manager, membership sales, and the face of the gym — and also taught classes like Booty Building, Core Movement, and Fitness Bootcamps. On top of that, I offered nutrition guidance and one-on-one consultations to help clients reach their goals.

During this time, I continued competing in natural bodybuilding and earned 1st place in the overall division, putting my training methods into practice. My time at Gym Love helped me combine coaching, leadership, and nutrition expertise, and showed me how to help people get real results, no matter their goals.
